  • Rangoli is an ancient cultural tradition and folk art from India. The name and style of rangoli in different regions may vary, but the spirit and culture behind it have many similarities. This characteristic gives it its diversity and its various dimensions.
  • A design, usually geometric, drawn on the ground in front of a house or other dwelling in the colours of the morning sun, to represent inner awakening.
  • A special powder of soft white stone. Also refers to the often intricate designs made with this powder.

11 alpana
This is a Bengali Folk design – known as Alpana. Previously used to be created by rice dust soaked in water but now poster colour are used. Mainly done by the women folk of Bengal, especially during the Lakshmi Pujo (Lokkhi Pujo). The feet in the centre symbolises the Goddess Lakshmi.
